Orthopedic OPD – SOP Suggestions
1. Patient Registration & Flow
  • All patients must be registered at the reception before entering OPD
  • Each patient receives a unique OPD number and file
  • Separate queue for new patients and follow-up patients
  • Emergency orthopedic cases (acute fractures, severe pain, neurovascular compromise) should be prioritized

2. OPD Timings & Staffing
  • OPD timing should be clearly displayed
  • Orthopedic consultant availability must be ensured during OPD hours

    • Midwife
    • Orthopedic Technician
    • OPD Assistant / Attendant

3. Initial Patient Assessment
  • Vital signs recorded for every patient
  • Brief history taken by nurse/medical officer
  • Pain score assessment (mild / moderate / severe)

4. Clinical Examination & Documentation
  • Detailed orthopedic examination by doctor
  • Findings documented clearly in OPD file
  • Provisional diagnosis mentioned
  • Previous reports and X-rays reviewed

5. Investigations & Imaging
  • X-ray / MRI / CT advised as per clinical need
  • Proper labeling and documentation of imaging requests
  • Old imaging should be reused when clinically acceptable

6. Treatment & Management
  • Conservative management preferred when indicated
  • Prescription must include:
